Inhuman Practices in Psychiatric institutions
The chairman of Insaf society had similar concerns for the psychiatric institutions in Pakistan, and feared that the conditions of the psychiatric hospitals would be similar to those observed in the jails of Pakistan. Therefore, the Ministry of Health of Punjab was requested for permission to visit the psychiatric institutions. The main objective of the visits was to conduct surveys of these institutions and to offer recommendations that would guarantee adequate facilities for patients’ betterment and instill proper conduct of the patients specifically but the institution authorities did not cooperate with Mr. Mansoor and did not give him the excess to wards excusing that there is potential exposure of attack by any of the violent patient. Thereafter, he tried to contact again ministry to interfere in the matter but the secretary of the department also showed his inability to do so.
